Meet nine year old Catherine Akica who is one of the children sponsored by Family Voice Church. She stays in Kakoge cell, Lira City with a care taker. Catherine’s second name “Akica” locally means “the merciful” literally referring to God’s mercy that made her to be rescued. Catherine was abandoned at the age of two years by her insane (mud) mother called Christine Akello and after some hours, an elderly woman in the name of Milly Alobo found her dropped by the roadside and reported the matter to the police station and later the police allowed her to take care of the baby. On a sad note, Catherine’s mother who was battling with insanity became so sick and passed on, leaving the caretaker with no option but rather to take full responsibility of the child even when she was in a poor living condition as a single mother. In 2022, Family Voice Church - Childcare wing was notified by a well-wisher and the Church quickly reached out to rescue her. At her rescue time, Catherine was no longer studying, could not express herself in English, could not read and write and had no clothes. Family Voice Church intervention was not just timely but a big blessing to a life that had no hope of a brighter future. After taking Catherine for a general medical checkup and treatment; the church put her in school to start from Top Class nursery level at St. Stephen Nursery School, followed by mentorship and discipleship sessions to enhance her spiritual and social journey; she is now in primary two (P.2) at VH public school in Lira City Catherine’s life has tremendously changed, she can now speak English, she can read and write, knows some mathematic, besides that, she also does house chores, cooking and cleaning the compound to support her poor single mother caretaker. As a church, we plan to build Family Voice Academy so that we can have them in our own school in order to fully empower and equip them in all ways. Please help us to achieve this dream!
Eldard and Medard are twins of five years old. They stay with their poor single HIV+ mother in Obutowelo “A” Lira city and study at St. Stephen Nursery school at the level of Top class. gThey are going to graduate in December this year 2024. Their mother Rebecca was born with HIV Aids; she became and grew up as an orphan from the age of Eighteen months after losing both of her parents to HIV Aids. She was left behind with her two little sisters alone in the family. She grew up in a child-headed family and was later abused and impregnated by an irresponsible young man who did not take any responsibility but abandoned her after realizing she was pregnant with twins In February 2019, when Rebecca had given birth in the hospital without anyone to help, one of the church members also a cousin sister to Rebecca, alerted Pr. Musa of Family Voice Church of Rebecca’s condition. Pr. Musa quickly rushed to the hospital, found Rebecca and her two beautiful babies in desperate need; and this is where the rescue, raise and empower mission started from. Because of the mother’s condition and the doctor advice the twin babies were not allowed to breastfeed so, from this point, Family Voice church started buying milk for the babies, food for the mother, cleared and continued paying medical bills on wards as well as providing other basic needs to them. Gloriously, the twin babies were born without HIV Aids! Pr. Musa prayed for them and named the girl, Eldard and the boy was named Medard respectively. The church continued supporting them with food and other basic needs and afterward put them in school at three years in 2022; they started from Baby class level and now at five years, they are in Top class (pre-primary school). Eldard and Medard became the first children Family Voice Church – Childcare wing rescued and enrolled in school. Besides taking them to school, mentorship and discipleship sessions are also conducted to both the mother and the kids to enhance their spiritual growth. Both Eldard and Eldard now can write, read, and can speak English. Consequently, Rebecca and her two children have joined and became members of Family Voice Church. As a church, we plan to build Family Voice Academy so that we can have them in our own school in order to fully empower and equip them in all ways. Please help us to achieve this dream!
Meet six year old Ezra Ebong, a Top class student at St. Stephen nursery school and a resident of Ireda Chamber, Lira City, who is one of the children sponsored by Family Voice Church- Childcare wing. Ezra’s father separated with his mother when she was pregnant and later on died of HIV a week after Ezra was born, leaving him behind with a single poor HIV+ mother who couldn’t afford to pay his school fees. In 2022, one of the concerned neighbors after hearing about Family Voice Church’s support to the vulnerable children to school, came to church and reported the condition of Ezra. The church quickly responded to assess the level of vulnerability. Indeed it was true, Ezra was not going to school, all he could do was loitering in the community, could not read and write, could not speak English. After finishing the due processes, he was finally rescued and admitted into the system and put in a private school called St. Stephen Nursery school at the level of Baby class (pre- primary school) He is now at Top class (upper pre-primary) level and about to graduate to primary one this year in December 2024. This intervention greatly changed his traumatized life; he can now read and write and can now speak English with boldness. Besides that, the church does mentorship and discipleship sessions with both the mother and the child and both of them joined and have become members of Family Voice church. As a church, we plan to build Family Voice Academy so that we can have them in our own school in order to fully empower and equip them in all ways. Please help us to achieve this dream!
Meet Emmanuel Akodo, who is now nine years old, and resides with a caretaker called David Akodo in Adidikgweno‘A’, Lira city. In 2015 when Emmanuel was 6 months old, he was abandoned and the passerby found him dropped by the roadside. He was picked and taken to the then village local council chairman of Adidikgweno village by the name David Akodo who thereafter reported the matter to the police station and was requested to take care of the baby as they search for the mother. When the search for the mother did not yield fruit, the police granted David Akodo the legal right as a guardian of Emmanuel who became his caretaker and has been keeping him to date. In 2022 when David, Emmanuel’s caretaker heard about how Family Voice Church is helping the vulnerable children, he brought Emmanuel seeking for financial help towards his education because he was already dropped out of school. At this point, necessary procedures and verifications were done and Emmanuel was rescued and put in school by Family Voce Church. At the time of his rescue, Emmanuel was already 6 years old but could not speak English, could not write nor read. Besides, he was so traumatized to the extent that he did not love to play and because of that, he did not have friends, did not know how to smile even if you could engage and provoke him to do so! The school administration took him back to start from a pre-primary (Nursery Top Class level). Now Emmanuel is Nine years old, studying very well at primary school, primary two level (P.2). The good news is that, Emmanuel can now write, read, can speak English and he has learned how to smile, lough and can play with his friend and actually he has made friends bothe at school and in the neighborhood! More so, his spiritual life has tremendously changed due to the mentorship and discipleship sessions that are always conducted! As a church, we plan to build Family Voice Academy so that we can have them in our own school in order to fully empower and equip them in all ways. Please help us to achieve this dream!
Meet Lucky Obangankene who is 3years old and residing in Gwengabara village, Lira City northern Uganda with his grandparents. Lucky’s mother Kia Dolly was a drug addict and got pregnant with a fellow drug addict who also neglected her when she was pregnant. Lucky’s abandonment happened right on his birth March 1st, 2021. When his mother went into labor pain at midnight, without telling anybody, she sneaked out, gave birth and dropped the baby in a newly constructed thirty five feet deep pit latrine that was not yet in use. In the morning, Dolly’s mother (Lucky’s grandma) saw blood stain in the compound and concluded something is not right. Dolly was traced and found hiding in another house and when asked, she could not talk. The neighbors and the community quickly traced the blood drops to the pit latrine direction and discovered the baby still alive crying in the pit latrine. They quickly but carefully uncovered the pit latrine and lifted the baby out and rushed him to the hospital where he was quickly attended to. Meanwhile the community started ganging against Lucky’s mother, throwing stones at her, beating her with aim to kill her but fortunately the police rushed and fired several gun shots in the air to save Dolly’s life from mob justice. After her rescue from the enraged community by the police, she was rushed to the hospital for treatment and later jailed for the crime she committed. Few months later Lucky’s mother was released from jail, but she went back to her normal life style of drugs. Unfortunately, later on she committed suicide and died leaving baby Lucky with no parents but rather his grandparents. In February 2024, Lucky was not going to school and Family Voice Church was alerted. The church intervened to rescue, raise and see that lucky is empowered. At his rescue time, Lucky didn’t know how to read, write and speak English. But after he was taken to schoo, he can now read, write and speak. He is in baby class at Rima Nursery and primary school in Lira City. In addition to that, the church has put emphasis on his spiritual growth by conducting mentorship and discipleship sessions to help heal some of the traumatization. I appeal to the supporters to keep supporting Lucky so that God may see him through his life. Besides that, the church also plans to have a school built for such children because of their alarming numbers in the city.
Meet Emmanuel and Jeremiah who are brothers and residing in Barr-ongeer railway division Lira city. In the order of birth, Jeremiah follows Emmanuel, 8 and 10 years old respectively, and they do not have both parents. They stay with their old blind grandmother of 80 years old, named Jentty who is helpless, can neither cook nor walk along distance. Most of the house work is done by the Emmanuel and Jeremiah alongside their younger aunt who works in a salon and seldomly comes home. During Covid 19 lockdown in 2021, Family Voice Church started distributing food (posho, rice and beans) to the desperate families and the family of Jentty was one of the beneficiaries. A year later, food distribution program was stopped and turned into education support. Family Voice church visited the family of Jetty and found Emmanuel and Jeremiah had not been to school at all; they had started developing bad behaviors of stealing in order to feed themselves. Meanwhile, their grandmother would go begging on street and they were survive on one meal a day or even sleep hungry. Consequently, the church rescued Emmanuel and Jeremiah, put them in a private school and is now raising and empowering them both academically and spiritually. But their feeding still remains a challenge since their grandmother is now blind and cannot go begging and yet Emmanuel and Jeremiah have to eat together with their grandma! The church is reconsidering reinstating food distribution specifically to this one family so Emmanuel and Jeremiah do not go back to stealing food from the neighborhood. However, ever since Emmanuel and Jeremiah were rescued and placed in school and now in primary two and in Top class respectively, coupled with the mentorship and discipleship programs that are conducted, their lives have greatly improved. They have stopped stealing, they can write, read and speak English including helping their blind grandma with cooking and fetching water. As a long term goal, we plan to build our own school so that the good number of such children can be transformed in our school. We appreciate your efforts and support and it is still our prayer that you continue supporting these children both in school and feeding at home so that their study is not interrupted.
Meet Innocent Opige a 7 year old, residing with a caretaker at Teobia, Lira city. Innocent was thrown and abandoned by his an unknown mother at zero years (immediately after birth) in 2017. At night, an elderly poor widow called Sophia heard the cry of a little baby in the water drainage trench. She touched and found a one day baby stuck in the running water garbage under the water culvert covered with human dung. She picked the baby, washed him and reported to the police station that later authorized her to take him to the hospital in emergency unit. When the baby fortunately stabilized, they were discharged and Sophia was asked to take care of the baby as the police continue searching for the unknown mother. After a long search to no avail, the police granted Sophia the legal right to keep baby Innocent. In 2022, when Family Voice church learned about Innocent’s story, the church intervened and found Innocent leaving a poor life with his a poor caretaker widow in a slum area not even going to school. The first thing Family Voice church did was to take Innocent for a comprehensive medical checkup and administering treatment on the wounds all over his body. Later on he was taken to school in the same year and currently he is in primary one after graduating from the nursery section last year. By the time Innocent was rescued, he could not write and read but now, he can write and read, speak English. His life has totally changed because of the discipleship and mentorship sessions that are being conducted alongside the formal education given. Because of the poor living condition of the slum area, the church requested a daughter of Innocent’s caretaker who stays outside of the slum area to take care of Innocent, and that is where Innocent is staying now. I appreciate all your support and request that you continue supporting Innocent so that he succeeds in his academic and spiritual journeys. And finally, as a church we plan to have the supported children study in our own school because there are a good number of these abandoned children all over the city that needs the same support and building a school would give opportunity to many more children to be supported by the church.
